Yes. Our at-home STI urine test kits are posted to you, you collect a urine sample at home whenever it suits, and you send it back through Australia Post in the return satchel supplied. There is no clinic visit, no appointment, no pathology form and nobody to speak to at any stage.
These are collection kits, not rapid self-tests. Your sample is processed by an accredited Australian laboratory and reviewed by an AHPRA-registered doctor, exactly like a sample given at a collection centre, so you get a real pathology report rather than a line on a plastic strip.
No, and no urine test can. HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are found through antibodies and antigens in blood, so they need a blood sample. Anyone selling you a urine test that claims to cover them is not being straight with you.
If you want those covered, the Full STI Test at $199 checks all four plus chlamydia and gonorrhoea from one visit to a collection centre, or you can order an at-home kit and add the STI Blood Test at $139 separately. If you have had a possible exposure to HIV or hepatitis, please do not rely on a urine kit.

Yes, several are, and we would rather tell you plainly than have you find out elsewhere. Australian public health law requires every accredited laboratory to confidentially notify its state or territory health department of positive results for certain conditions, including HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, hepatitis B and hepatitis C. This applies to every lab in the country, including the one your own GP uses, and no private provider can opt out of it.
What it means in practice is far less dramatic than it sounds. The notification goes to a health department for disease surveillance. It is confidential and protected by privacy law. It is not shared with your employer, your insurer, your family or your partner, it does not appear on Medicare or My Health Record, and nobody turns up at your door. Everything within our control stays with you.
Yes, they are the same thing. STD stands for sexually transmitted disease and STI stands for sexually transmitted infection. STI is the term Australian clinicians now use, because many of these infections never cause disease symptoms at all. For at-home kits, the same 24 to 48 hour laboratory turnaround applies once your sample arrives, but you also need to allow Australia Post transit in both directions. Some specialised cultures take a little longer, which is normal and not a sign anything is wrong.

Yes, and it matters. Throat and rectal chlamydia and gonorrhoea are common and usually have no symptoms whatsoever, so a urine-only test, including our at-home kits, can come back clear while an infection sits somewhere else entirely.
The Advanced STI Test and the Complete Sexual Health Panel include throat swabs. Both PrEP panels include urine, throat and rectal sites. Swabs are self-collected, which most people find far less confronting than they expect.
MediTests is a pathology service. We do not currently prescribe, dispense or manage treatment of any kind. What we do is make sure you are not left on your own with a result. Every report is reviewed by an AHPRA-registered doctor before it reaches you, anything positive is flagged clearly and explained in plain language, and if something needs prompt attention we contact you privately.
From there you take your report to a GP, a sexual health clinic or a telehealth service. Treatment for the common bacterial infections is usually a single course of antibiotics, and your report is in the standard format any practitioner will accept.
No fasting is needed for STI testing. The one thing worth knowing is that for urine samples, including the at-home kits, you should ideally hold on for at least one hour before giving the sample, and collect the first part of your stream rather than midstream. The UTI Test is the exception, where a midstream sample is what you want. Any specific instructions come with your kit or your pathology form.

The at-home kit is a collection kit, not a rapid self-test that gives you a line on a strip. You collect the sample, the laboratory does the testing. Your report is a full pathology report in the same format any doctor would receive, which is exactly why you can hand it to any clinic and have it taken seriously.
Each test is issued to one named person, since the pathology form and the lab report have to carry the correct name and date of birth. If you and a partner want to test together, order two, and each of you gets your own kit or form and your own private results.
