Will my STI test show up on Medicare or My Health Record?

No. You pay privately, so we never claim against Medicare and nothing appears in your Medicare claims history. We do not upload results to My Health Record and we do not send anything to your GP unless you ask us to. Your results go to your email and your private results portal, and nowhere else.

Your card statement shows MediTests only. It does not name the test.

Which STI test should I order?

For most people the Full STI Test at $199 is the right call. It covers the six infections people actually worry about, blood and urine in one visit.

Go up to the Advanced STI Test at $279 if you have had oral or receptive sex, since throat infections are common and usually silent, or the Complete Sexual Health Panel at $349 if you want everything. On a tighter budget the Basic STI Test at $99 covers the two most common infections in Australia. If you have a specific symptom, the targeted tests go straight at one problem for less.

Can I do an STI test at home in Brisbane?

Yes. Our at-home STI urine test kits are posted anywhere in Brisbane and Queensland in a plain, unbranded satchel. You collect a urine sample at home, then send it back through Australia Post in the return satchel supplied.

These are collection kits, not rapid self-tests. Your sample is processed by the same accredited Australian laboratory network, so you get a real pathology report. Note that urine cannot check HIV, syphilis or hepatitis, which need a blood sample.

Is this a real lab test?

Yes. Your sample is collected by a trained collector at an accredited collection centre, or by you at home with a kit, and processed by the same NATA-accredited Australian laboratories that hospitals and GPs use, operating to ISO 15189 standards. Your report is a full pathology report in the same format any doctor would receive.

Are STIs notifiable to health authorities in Queensland?

Yes, several are. Australian public health law requires every accredited laboratory to confidentially notify its state or territory health department of positive results for certain conditions. In Queensland that is Queensland Health. This applies to every lab in the country, including the one your own GP uses.

The notification is for disease surveillance, it is protected by privacy law, and it is not shared with your employer, your insurer, your family or your partner. It does not appear on Medicare or My Health Record.

What if my result is positive?

MediTests is a pathology service and we do not prescribe, dispense or manage treatment. Every report is reviewed by an AHPRA-registered doctor before it reaches you, anything positive is flagged clearly and explained in plain language, and if something needs prompt attention we contact you privately.

Your report comes in the standard pathology format, so any GP or telehealth service in Brisbane will accept it. Treatment for the common bacterial infections is usually a single course of antibiotics.
