FAQs

Sports blood test questions

Do I need a GP referral?
No. MediTests is a private, self-request pathology service. Order online, get your request form by email straight after checkout, and walk into any of 3,300+ collection centres. No consult, no referral, no reason required.
Which panel should I start with?
Most people choose Sports Extended at $179. It carries the complete 12-hormone profile, adding Cortisol, DHEAS, IGF-1, Growth Hormone and Progesterone for only $10 more than Standard, which is why it is our best seller.
When should I get my blood taken?
Morning is best. Testosterone follows a daily rhythm and peaks early, so collection before 10am gives the most comparable result. It is also worth avoiding a blood draw within 24 to 48 hours of a very heavy session, since intense training can temporarily lift markers like AST and hs-CRP.
How often should I retest?
Most people testing for performance retest every three to six months, or around a training block, a diet phase or a change in programming. The value is in the trend rather than any single result, so testing the same panel each time makes comparison much easier.
Are these panels suitable for women?
Yes. The organ, recovery, metabolic and blood count markers apply equally, and hormone markers are reported against female reference ranges. If you want a panel weighted more towards female hormones, our Women's Health range may suit better.
Do I need to fast?
Fasting for 8 to 12 hours is recommended where your panel includes glucose and lipids, which covers every panel in this range. Water is fine. If you are unsure, follow any guidance included with your pathology request form.
What if a result comes back outside the range?
Every report is reviewed by our AHPRA-registered doctors, and anything outside the reference range is flagged clearly. If something stands out we will let you know and recommend following up with a GP, who can interpret it in the context of your training, history and anything you are taking.

Stop guessing. Start measuring.

Order online today, walk in tomorrow, and have a complete pathology report in your inbox within 24 to 48 hours.
