Why it's worth knowing

The three deficiencies behind most fatigue

Iron (via ferritin), Vitamin D and B12 measured together. The three nutrients that account for the majority of fatigue, low energy, brain fog and poor recovery cases.

Ferritin reveals true iron status

Iron deficiency hits 1 in 5 Australian women and many men despite “normal” full blood counts. Ferritin drops first, long before haemoglobin shifts. The marker that catches iron deficiency the moment it starts.

Vitamin D drives more than bones

Mood, immune function, hormone production (testosterone in men, oestrogen metabolism in women), bone density and inflammatory regulation all depend on Vitamin D. Most Australians sit below optimal despite the sun.

B12 for brain, nerves and energy

B12 deficiency causes brain fog, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy, mood disorders and memory issues. Common in vegans, vegetarians, anyone over 50 and people on metformin or PPIs. Often missed in standard testing.

Why these three together

Iron, Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies have overlapping symptoms: fatigue, low mood, poor concentration, weakness. Testing them together tells you which one (or combination) is actually responsible.

The most cost-effective fatigue investigation

At $179, the focused test that answers the most common health question: why am I tired? Iron, Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are the cause in the majority of cases — find which one (or all three) is yours.

Common questions

Everything you need to know before you order.

No GP consult or telehealth appointment needed. We instantly generate your pathology referral and send it directly to your inbox after checkout.
You can order any test you want without the gatekeeping.

Through your GP, blood tests are typically only bulk-billed under Medicare if you have a specific medical condition that justifies them. You can't just walk in and ask for a panel because you're curious or want a baseline. Your doctor decides which markers get tested, and that list is usually limited.

MediTests is for people who want to take a more proactive approach to their health. Whether you're looking for deeper insights, want to establish a personal baseline, or simply choose exactly which markers you want to track, you're in control. No condition required, no waiting room, no Medicare eligibility hurdles.

Never. The price you see includes everything: referral, testing, processing and results. No surprises.
The most common reason is that something feels off but a standard GP panel hasn't turned anything up. Fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, low mood, poor recovery, irregular cycles and low libido all have measurable biological causes that a targeted panel can identify.

You don't need symptoms to benefit from testing. Proactive testing establishes your personal baseline, catches risk factors before they cause harm, and helps you understand whether diet, training or lifestyle changes are actually working.
Yes, absolutely. You can build your own panel by choosing from our wide range of individual tests. Whether you're checking one thing or a combination of markers, you're in control of what you get tested for. Visit our Create Your Own Test page to start building.

A very positive experience

I booked a blood test because my health insurance did not cover GP consultations. The referral form was emailed to me immediately, I walked into a collection centre the next morning and my results arrived the very next day. One result showed an elevated TSH level and because I was pregnant, a doctor from their Sydney office personally called me to talk it through. It made me feel they genuinely cared.

Could not have been better

I've been in remission from Graves Disease for a few years and suddenly had symptoms again. It was easy to choose and purchase the test I needed at a reasonable price and set up the appointment online for the next day. The lab tech was friendly and put me entirely at ease, and the results were delivered electronically within a day or two. Could not have been better.

Basic Nutrient Check

The Basic Nutrient Check is a simple basic nutrient blood test covering the three deficiencies most often behind ongoing fatigue, brain fog and low immunity: ferritin, vitamin D and vitamin B12. It is the most affordable place to start when your energy is low and nothing obvious explains it.

It measures ferritin (your iron stores, and one of the most common causes of tiredness, especially in women), vitamin D (widely deficient in Australia despite the climate, and important for energy, mood and immunity) and vitamin B12 (essential for energy and nerve function). These three are the first markers worth checking before looking further.

If you want a broader nutrient picture, the Nutrient Deficiency Check adds folate, magnesium and zinc. You can also create your own blood test to add other markers.

The Basic Nutrient Check needs no GP referral and no appointment, so you can get your blood test online and walk into any of 3,300+ collection centres across Australia, with results in 24 to 48 hours. For more on vitamins and minerals, Healthdirect Australia is a useful reference.

What we test for

  • Ferritin (Iron Stores): Ferritin measures the amount of iron stored in your body, not just what is circulating in your blood. It drops long before standard iron or haemoglobin levels fall, which means you can have normal blood counts and still be significantly deficient. Low ferritin is one of the most common and most overlooked causes of persistent fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance, difficulty concentrating and hair loss.
  • Vitamin D: Despite Australia’s climate, vitamin D deficiency affects roughly one in four Australians because most people do not expose enough skin during the times of day when UV is sufficient. Vitamin D plays a direct role in immune function, mood regulation, bone strength and muscle performance. Low levels are linked to fatigue, low mood, frequent illness and poor recovery from exercise.
  • Vitamin B12: B12 is essential for energy production, red blood cell formation and the health of your nervous system. Deficiency develops slowly and causes fatigue, pins and needles, brain fog and in more advanced cases, irreversible nerve damage. People who eat little red meat, follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, or take certain medications including metformin and acid reflux drugs are at highest risk.
