The value
Why it's worth knowing
29 markers to track GLP-1 progress and safety
Metabolic, cardiovascular, organ, thyroid and inflammation markers measured together. Reveals whether GLP-1 is producing the metabolic improvements you expect AND catches the side effects that need monitoring.
HOMA-IR and fasting insulin show whether GLP-1 is working
The most accurate way to track GLP-1 efficacy. HOMA-IR should drop significantly within 3-6 months on treatment. If it is not, dose adjustment or alternative approach may be needed. Beyond scale weight, this is the real progress metric.
HbA1c shows real metabolic improvement
Weight loss is one signal. HbA1c improvement is the actual metabolic health change. A drop of 0.5-1.0%+ on GLP-1 over 3 months is typical and shows the medication is improving how your body handles blood sugar.
Full thyroid (TSH, FT3, FT4) for safety monitoring
GLP-1 medications carry a black-box warning for medullary thyroid cancer risk. Routine thyroid monitoring on treatment is standard care. TSH, FT3 and FT4 together reveal subclinical thyroid dysfunction the standard TSH check alone would miss.
hsCRP for systemic inflammation tracking
Weight loss should reduce inflammation. hsCRP catches the low-grade inflammation that drives cardiovascular disease and metabolic dysfunction. Tracking it on GLP-1 reveals whether the metabolic benefits are translating to lower inflammation.
Liver and kidney function for ongoing safety
ALT, AST, ALP, GGT, eGFR, creatinine and electrolytes. The organ-stress markers most likely to shift on GLP-1 medication. Regular monitoring catches issues early enough to adjust treatment before harm occurs.

FAQs
Common questions
Everything you need to know before you order.
Through your GP, blood tests are typically only covered by Medicare when they're medically warranted. Medicare covers testing because a condition justifies it, not because you want to be proactive or just want to know certain things. You can't just walk in and ask for a panel of biomarkers because you're curious or want a baseline. Your doctor decides which markers get tested, and that list is usually limited.
MediTests is for people who want to take a proactive approach to their health. Deep insights, a personal baseline, and the exact markers you want to track over time. You're in full control. It's your data. No condition required, no waiting room, no eligibility hurdles.
You can get any test you want, with over 300 blood tests across 16 categories. We never refuse a blood test.
You also get your original lab report back in 24 to 48 hours, sent straight to your inbox. No follow-up consult, no appointment to book, and nothing linked to My Health Record or Medicare. Completely private.
Same NATA-accredited labs GPs and hospitals use. Same accuracy. None of the waiting.
No GP consult or telehealth appointment needed. We instantly generate your pathology request form and send it directly to your inbox after checkout.
If you would like one, we also offer private doctor consultations as an optional extra, for people who want private blood test results and a private consult to discuss them.
As simple as it gets:
Choose your test online. Your pathology request form arrives in your inbox instantly.
Walk into any of our 3,300+ collection centres. No appointment needed.
Results delivered securely to your inbox in 24 to 48 hours.
Most tests need no fasting at all. Some markers, like fasting glucose, fasting insulin and certain cholesterol panels, give the most accurate reading after fasting. If your test needs it, it's stated on the product page and on your pathology request form. Water is always fine.
No, never. Nothing is linked to My Health Record or Medicare. Your results are completely private and confidential: they're sent securely to your email, and only you decide who sees them. Many of our customers choose MediTests for exactly this reason, and we take that privacy seriously.
100%. We partner with NATA-accredited Australian laboratories, the same trusted labs used by hospitals and GPs across the country. Every result is processed to the same clinical standards as your local pathology centre.
Never. The price you see includes everything: your pathology request form, testing, processing and results. No surprises.
The most common reason is that something feels off but a standard GP panel hasn't turned anything up. Fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, low mood, poor recovery, irregular cycles and low libido all have measurable biological causes that a targeted panel can identify.
You don't need symptoms to benefit from testing. Proactive testing establishes your personal baseline, catches risk factors before they cause harm, and helps you understand whether diet, training or lifestyle changes are actually working.
Yes, absolutely. You can build your own panel by choosing from our wide range of individual tests. Whether you're checking one thing or a combination of markers, you're in control of what you get tested for. Visit our Create Your Own Test page to start building.

A very positive experience
I booked a blood test because my health insurance did not cover GP consultations. The referral form was emailed to me immediately, I walked into a collection centre the next morning and my results arrived the very next day. One result showed an elevated TSH level and because I was pregnant, a doctor from their Sydney office personally called me to talk it through. It made me feel they genuinely cared.

Could not have been better
I've been in remission from Graves Disease for a few years and suddenly had symptoms again. It was easy to choose and purchase the test I needed at a reasonable price and set up the appointment online for the next day. The lab tech was friendly and put me entirely at ease, and the results were delivered electronically within a day or two. Could not have been better.

GLP-1 Progress Blood Test
The GLP-1 Progress Blood Test is a glp-1 monitoring blood test for people already on a GLP-1 medication who want to track how their body is responding. Regular monitoring helps you and your prescriber see what is improving and keep an eye on the markers worth watching during treatment.
It measures fasting glucose, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR and HbA1c (to track your metabolic response), liver function and kidney function (EUC), a full thyroid panel (TSH, FT3, FT4) and hsCRP for inflammation. Tracking these over time shows how your metabolic health is shifting and helps confirm things are moving in the right direction.
The GLP-1 Progress Blood Test needs no GP referral and no appointment, so you can get your blood test online and walk into any of 3,300+ collection centres across Australia, with results in 24 to 48 hours. For more on metabolic health, Healthdirect Australia is a useful reference.
What we test for
Fasting Glucose: Measures blood sugar levels after fasting. Used to track whether glucose control is improving during treatment.
Fasting Insulin: Reflects insulin production at rest. Monitoring changes in fasting insulin during treatment can indicate whether insulin resistance is improving.
HOMA-IR Score: A calculated estimate of insulin resistance derived from fasting glucose and insulin. Useful for tracking metabolic improvement over time.
HbA1c: Reflects average blood glucose over the past two to three months. A key marker for monitoring glucose control during GLP-1 therapy.
Total Cholesterol: A broad measure of cardiovascular risk tracked alongside other lipid markers to assess treatment-related changes.
LDL Cholesterol: The cholesterol fraction most associated with cardiovascular risk. Monitored during treatment to track any lipid changes.
HDL Cholesterol: The protective cholesterol fraction. An increase in HDL during treatment is a positive metabolic indicator.
Triglycerides: Elevated triglycerides are common in people with insulin resistance and often improve with GLP-1 therapy. Tracked to monitor metabolic response.
Non-HDL Cholesterol: A more complete measure of cardiovascular risk than LDL alone, calculated by subtracting HDL from total cholesterol.
Bilirubin: A waste product from red blood cell breakdown. Monitored as part of ongoing liver health assessment during treatment.
Direct Bilirubin: Provides more specific information about liver and bile duct function when total bilirubin is elevated.
ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase): A liver and bone enzyme. Ongoing monitoring detects any treatment-related changes in liver health.
AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase): A marker of liver cell integrity. Assessed alongside ALT to identify any liver stress during treatment.
ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase): One of the most sensitive markers of liver cell damage. Important to monitor during medication use.
GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase): Sensitive to liver stress and medication effects. Tracked as part of routine liver function monitoring.
Albumin: Produced by the liver and reflects both liver function and nutritional status. Monitored during treatment as appetite changes may affect protein intake.
Globulin: Assessed alongside albumin to characterise liver function and identify inflammatory patterns.
Total Protein: A combined measure of albumin and globulin providing a broad assessment of liver function and nutritional status.
Sodium: An essential electrolyte for fluid balance and blood pressure regulation. Monitored as part of ongoing kidney and metabolic health assessment.
Potassium: Critical for heart rhythm and muscle function. Abnormal levels can have significant cardiac implications.
Chloride: Works alongside sodium to maintain fluid and acid-base balance. Assessed as part of a complete electrolyte profile.
Bicarbonate: Reflects the kidneys’ ability to regulate blood pH. A marker of metabolic and renal health.
Urea: A kidney-filtered waste product. Elevated levels can indicate reduced kidney function or changes in dietary protein intake.
Creatinine: One of the most reliable markers of kidney function. Monitored during treatment to detect any renal changes.
eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate): The best overall indicator of kidney filtration capacity. Tracked to identify any early decline in kidney function.
TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): The most sensitive indicator of thyroid function. Included given the known interaction between GLP-1 receptors and thyroid tissue. Abnormal TSH can affect metabolism, energy, and weight regulation.
FT4 (Free Thyroxine): The primary hormone produced by the thyroid. Assessed alongside TSH to provide a more complete picture of thyroid function.
FT3 (Free Triiodothyronine): The active form of thyroid hormone with a direct effect on cellular metabolism. Measured alongside FT4 and TSH to assess how well the body is converting thyroid hormones.
High Sensitivity CRP (hsCRP): A sensitive marker of low-grade systemic inflammation. Tracking hsCRP during therapy helps identify whether inflammation is improving in line with metabolic changes or flagging early concerns.
