Correct. MediTests is a self-request pathology service, which is fully legal in Australia when paid privately. You order any panel directly online, and your pathology referral is generated automatically. No telehealth consult, no GP visit, no third-party approval.
How long does the entire process take?
From order to results: typically 24 to 48 hours. The order itself takes a couple of minutes. Your referral arrives in your inbox immediately. The collection centre visit takes under 10 minutes. Lab processing and results delivery happens within 24 to 48 hours of your sample being collected.
Where do I get my blood drawn?
Any of our 3,300+ accredited collection centres across Australia. They are partner pathology centres in metro and regional areas including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart and Darwin. No booking required. Just walk in with your referral and a photo ID.
What do I need to bring?
Your pathology referral PDF (printed or on your phone) and a valid photo ID such as a driver's licence or passport. That is it. We recommend staying hydrated beforehand and wearing loose sleeves to make the draw quick and comfortable.
How accurate are the results?
The same as any GP-ordered test. MediTests partners exclusively with NATA-accredited Australian pathology laboratories that comply with ISO 15189 standards, the same standard applied to every blood test in the public system.
What happens if my results are abnormal?
Every result is reviewed by an AHPRA-registered doctor. If anything urgent or unusual shows up, our team may contact you with guidance and recommend follow-up with your GP. For non-urgent flagged results, you will see them clearly noted on your report with reference ranges.
Can I take my results to my GP?
Absolutely. Your results come as a full original lab report in the same format your GP is used to reading. Many MediTests customers use private testing for proactive monitoring, then share results with their GP for clinical interpretation or follow-up.
Is this covered by Medicare or private health insurance?
No. Because MediTests is a private self-request service, the cost is not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. The trade-off is that you skip the eligibility criteria, the appointments and the wait times. You pay one transparent upfront price with no hidden fees.
Will my results show on My Health Record?
No. Private blood tests through MediTests are not Medicare-linked, so they do not automatically appear on My Health Record. Your data stays with you, and you decide who to share it with.
Can I order tests for someone else?
Tests must be ordered in the name of the person being tested. The collection centre will check your photo ID against your referral, so the names need to match. If you would like to gift a test, get in touch with our team and we can help arrange it.
