Genetic Methylation Test

Original price was: $799.00.Current price is: $599.00.

The Genetic Methylation Test (Methylation Profile) is an advanced blood test that evaluates key markers involved in the body’s methylation cycle.

It measures functional methylation activity and folate metabolism, providing insight into how effectively your body produces and utilises methyl groups.

Why choose this test?

Methylation is a fundamental biochemical process involved in DNA regulation, detoxification, neurotransmitter balance, hormone metabolism and energy production.

The Methylation Profile is a specialised blood test that assesses the methionine and folate pathways responsible for generating methyl groups in the body.

At the centre of this process is S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAMe), the body’s primary methyl donor. As SAMe releases methyl groups, it converts to S-Adenosyl Homocysteine (SAH). The balance between these two markers reflects overall methylation efficiency.

This test measures:

  • SAMe

  • SAH

  • SAM/SAH Ratio (Methylation Index)

  • Tetrahydrofolate (THF)

  • Folinic Acid (5-formyl THF)

  • 5-Methyl Tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)

The included pathway diagram (see report page 4) illustrates the interaction between methionine, homocysteine, folate metabolism and glutathione production.

This profile is often considered when investigating:

  • MTHFR-related functional concerns

  • Impaired methylation activity

  • Elevated homocysteine

  • Detoxification challenges

  • Neurotransmitter balance and sleep regulation

This is a blood test performed through an accredited laboratory.

About these tests

S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAMe)
The body’s primary methyl donor. Required for DNA/RNA synthesis, glutathione production, CoQ10 synthesis, creatine formation and neurotransmitter regulation.

S-Adenosyl Homocysteine (SAH)
Formed after SAMe donates a methyl group. Elevated SAH can inhibit methylation processes.

SAM/SAH Ratio (Methylation Index)
Reflects overall methylation efficiency. A lower ratio suggests reduced methylation activity.

Tetrahydrofolate (THF)
The basic reduced form of folate from which other active folate forms are derived.

Acid (5-formyl THF)
An active reduced folate form that can be converted into other active folates and supports methylation pathways.|

5-Methyl Tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)
The primary circulating folate form used to donate methyl groups to homocysteine. Its production is influenced by MTHFR enzyme activity.
