A very positive experience
I booked a blood test because my health insurance did not cover GP consultations. What we test for
Total Testosterone – Measures the total amount of testosterone circulating in your blood. Testosterone plays an important role in libido, energy, mood, muscle mass, bone health and reproductive function.
Bilirubin – A substance produced during the normal breakdown of red blood cells. It is used alongside other markers to assess liver processing and bile flow.
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) – An enzyme found mainly in the liver, bile ducts and bones. Abnormal results may warrant further assessment of liver, biliary or bone health.
Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) – A liver and bile-duct enzyme that may increase with liver stress, impaired bile flow, alcohol exposure or certain medications.
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) – An enzyme found predominantly in the liver. Elevated levels can indicate irritation or injury affecting liver cells.
Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) – An enzyme found in the liver, muscles and other tissues. It is interpreted with other results when assessing liver health or muscle-related changes.
Albumin – The main protein produced by the liver. It helps transport hormones and other substances while maintaining normal fluid balance in the bloodstream.
Total Protein – Measures the combined amount of albumin and globulins in the blood, providing information relevant to nutritional status, liver function and general health.
Globulins – A group of proteins involved in immune function, transport and other important biological processes.
Sodium – An essential electrolyte that supports hydration, nerve signalling, muscle function and fluid balance.
Potassium – An electrolyte required for normal muscle contraction, nerve function and regulation of heart rhythm.
Chloride – Works with sodium and bicarbonate to help regulate hydration, fluid distribution and the body’s acid–base balance.
Bicarbonate – Helps assess the body’s acid–base balance and may provide insight into metabolic, kidney or respiratory disturbances.
Urea – A waste product formed from protein metabolism. It is interpreted with creatinine and eGFR when assessing kidney function and hydration.

Amylase – A digestive enzyme produced mainly by the pancreas and salivary glands that helps break down carbohydrates.
Uric Acid – A waste product formed when the body breaks down purines. Elevated levels can be associated with gout and some kidney stones.
Glucose – Measures the amount of sugar in the blood at the time of collection and provides a snapshot of blood-glucose regulation.
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) – A general marker that can rise in response to inflammation, infection or tissue injury. It does not identify the specific cause.
Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) – An enzyme present throughout the body. Elevated levels may occur with tissue or cell damage and must be interpreted alongside other findings.
