A very positive experience
I booked a blood test because my health insurance did not cover GP consultations. What we test for
Total Testosterone – Measures all testosterone circulating in the blood, including testosterone bound to proteins and the smaller amount that is unbound.
Free Testosterone – Estimates or measures the testosterone that is not tightly bound to proteins and is more readily available for the body to use.
Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) – A protein that binds testosterone and oestradiol. SHBG helps explain why free testosterone can differ even between people with similar total testosterone levels.
Oestradiol (E2) – The main form of oestrogen measured in men. It contributes to bone health, sexual function and normal hormone balance.
Luteinising Hormone (LH) – A pituitary hormone that signals the testes to produce testosterone. It provides context about the hormonal signalling involved in testosterone production.
Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) – A pituitary hormone involved in sperm production and testicular function.
Prolactin – A hormone produced by the pituitary gland. Elevated prolactin can affect reproductive hormone signalling, libido and testosterone production.
Cortisol – The body’s primary glucocorticoid or “stress hormone.” It plays an important role in metabolism, blood pressure, immune responses and the stress response, and varies throughout the day.

Albumin – The main protein produced by the liver. It transports hormones and other substances and helps maintain normal fluid balance in the bloodstream.
Total Protein – Measures the combined amount of albumin and globulins, providing information relevant to nutritional status, liver function and general health.
Globulins – A group of proteins involved in immune function, transport and other important biological processes.
Sodium – An essential electrolyte involved in hydration, nerve signalling, muscle function and fluid balance.
Potassium – An electrolyte required for normal muscle contraction, nerve function and regulation of heart rhythm.
Chloride – Works with sodium and bicarbonate to help regulate hydration, fluid distribution and acid–base balance.
Bicarbonate – Helps assess the body’s acid–base balance and may provide insight into metabolic, kidney or respiratory disturbances.
Urea – A waste product formed from protein metabolism. It is interpreted with creatinine and eGFR when assessing kidney function and hydration.
Creatinine – A waste product generated by normal muscle metabolism and commonly used to assess kidney filtration.
eGFR – An estimated measure of how effectively the kidneys are filtering waste from the blood.
Calcium – An essential mineral needed for healthy bones, muscle contraction, nerve signalling and numerous cellular processes.
Magnesium – Supports muscle and nerve function, energy production and normal heart function. A blood result reflects circulating magnesium.
Phosphate – A mineral involved in bone health, energy production, cell membranes and acid–base regulation.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) – A general marker that can rise with inflammation, infection or tissue injury. It does not identify the specific cause.
