Kidney function results (urea, creatinine and your calculated eGFR) are read together, and what’s considered normal can shift slightly with age, muscle mass and hydration, so your doctor will interpret your result in that context rather than against a single fixed cut-off. Results can also be temporarily affected by recent exercise or a high-protein meal.
This test measures electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride and bicarbonate) along with urea and creatinine, with creatinine used to calculate your eGFR – an estimate of how efficiently your kidneys are filtering waste from your blood.
No fasting is required, but it’s best to avoid eating cooked meat for 4 to 6 hours beforehand, as this can temporarily raise your creatinine result and affect your eGFR calculation.

A very positive experience
