The value

Why it's worth knowing

Uncover heart risk beyond cholesterol

ApoB counts the actual particles carrying cholesterol, often a more accurate read on heart risk than LDL alone.

Check for inherited heart risk once

Lipoprotein(a) is largely genetic, a single test reveals lifelong cardiovascular risk most people never measure.

Catch insulin resistance early

Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR reveal metabolic dysfunction years before blood sugar shifts.

See low-grade heart inflammation

High-sensitivity CRP measures the chronic inflammation tied to long-term cardiovascular risk.

Find what homocysteine reveals

A blood marker linked to heart and brain risk, easily lowered with the right inputs when caught early.

Check organ context for the full picture

Kidney, liver and thyroid markers read alongside heart markers, because the systems work together.

Common questions

Everything you need to know before you order.

No GP consult or telehealth appointment needed. We instantly generate your pathology referral and send it directly to your inbox after checkout.
You can order any test you want without the gatekeeping.

Through your GP, blood tests are typically only bulk-billed under Medicare if you have a specific medical condition that justifies them. You can't just walk in and ask for a panel because you're curious or want a baseline. Your doctor decides which markers get tested, and that list is usually limited.

MediTests is for people who want to take a more proactive approach to their health. Whether you're looking for deeper insights, want to establish a personal baseline, or simply choose exactly which markers you want to track, you're in control. No condition required, no waiting room, no Medicare eligibility hurdles.

Never. The price you see includes everything: referral, testing, processing and results. No surprises.
The most common reason is that something feels off but a standard GP panel hasn't turned anything up. Fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, low mood, poor recovery, irregular cycles and low libido all have measurable biological causes that a targeted panel can identify.

You don't need symptoms to benefit from testing. Proactive testing establishes your personal baseline, catches risk factors before they cause harm, and helps you understand whether diet, training or lifestyle changes are actually working.
Yes, absolutely. You can build your own panel by choosing from our wide range of individual tests. Whether you're checking one thing or a combination of markers, you're in control of what you get tested for. Visit our Create Your Own Test page to start building.

A very positive experience

I booked a blood test because my health insurance did not cover GP consultations. The referral form was emailed to me immediately, I walked into a collection centre the next morning and my results arrived the very next day. One result showed an elevated TSH level and because I was pregnant, a doctor from their Sydney office personally called me to talk it through. It made me feel they genuinely cared.

Could not have been better

I've been in remission from Graves Disease for a few years and suddenly had symptoms again. It was easy to choose and purchase the test I needed at a reasonable price and set up the appointment online for the next day. The lab tech was friendly and put me entirely at ease, and the results were delivered electronically within a day or two. Could not have been better.

Heart & Metabolic Health Check

The Heart & Metabolic Health Check is a detailed heart and metabolic health check for people who want to look beyond a basic cholesterol reading. Standard tests can miss meaningful cardiovascular risk, and this panel brings in the advanced markers that give a far clearer picture.

It measures a full lipid profile with HDL and LDL, plus ApoB and Apolipoprotein A (which count the actual particles driving plaque), Lipoprotein(a) (a largely genetic risk factor most people never test), homocysteine and hsCRP. On the metabolic side it covers fasting glucose, HbA1c, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR and uric acid, with liver, kidney and TSH markers rounding it out.

If you mainly want the metabolic side, the Diabetes & Insulin Resistance Test is more focused. You can also create your own blood test to target specific markers.

Knowing your real cardiovascular risk early matters, and the Heart Foundation encourages understanding your risk factors well before problems arise. The Heart & Metabolic Health Check needs no GP referral and no appointment, so you can get your blood test online and walk into any of 3,300+ collection centres across Australia, with results in 24 to 48 hours.

What we test for

High Sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP): A sensitive marker of systemic inflammation associated with early cardiovascular risk, metabolic dysfunction, and chronic disease. More precise than standard CRP and capable of detecting low-level inflammation that standard testing would miss.

Homocysteine: An amino acid that, when elevated, is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and cognitive decline. Levels are influenced by B-vitamin status, genetics, and kidney function, and can be elevated silently without obvious symptoms.

Apolipoprotein B (ApoB): Measures the number of atherogenic particles in the blood and is considered one of the most accurate predictors of cardiovascular risk available. More precise than standard LDL cholesterol alone and an essential marker for anyone wanting a complete picture of heart disease risk.

Apolipoprotein A (ApoA-1): The primary protein component of HDL (good cholesterol). Higher levels are associated with better cardiovascular protection, and when assessed alongside ApoB, provides a powerful ratio for evaluating long-term arterial disease risk.

Fasting Insulin: Measures insulin levels in a fasted state to assess how hard the pancreas is working to manage blood sugar. Elevated fasting insulin is one of the earliest signs of insulin resistance, often present years before changes appear in glucose or HbA1c.

HbA1c: Reflects your average blood sugar levels over the past 2 to 3 months and is used to assess long-term glucose control, diabetes risk, and the cumulative metabolic burden on the cardiovascular system.

Lipid Studies (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides): Evaluates cholesterol and fat levels in the blood to assess cardiovascular health and long-term heart disease risk. Forms the foundation of any cardiovascular risk assessment and provides essential context for interpreting ApoB and ApoA-1.

Fasting Glucose: Measures your blood sugar level at the time of collection. When assessed alongside fasting insulin and HbA1c, it completes the glycaemic picture and allows for accurate calculation of insulin resistance via HOMA-IR.

HOMA-IR: A calculated index derived from fasting glucose and fasting insulin that quantifies insulin resistance. Provides a clear, single-number picture of how effectively your body is responding to insulin, making it one of the most actionable markers in a metabolic health panel.

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]: An independent and largely genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor that standard lipid panels do not capture. Lp(a) is not meaningfully altered by lifestyle changes, making it important to know as a fixed component of your personal cardiovascular risk profile.

Kidney Function (EUC/eGFR): Measures waste products and electrolytes to assess kidney health and fluid balance. Kidney function is a significant amplifier of cardiovascular risk and also directly affects the interpretation of homocysteine levels.

Liver Function Tests (LFTs): Assess enzymes and markers that reflect liver health. Metabolic dysfunction and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease are closely linked to insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk, making liver function a relevant and informative inclusion in this panel.

Uric Acid: Measures uric acid levels in the blood. Elevated uric acid is associated with insulin resistance, hypertension, and increased cardiovascular risk, and can be influenced by diet, metabolic health, and kidney function.

TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): A key indicator of thyroid function. Thyroid dysfunction directly impacts cholesterol levels, blood pressure, metabolic rate, and cardiovascular risk, making TSH an important supporting marker in any comprehensive heart and metabolic health assessment.

Reasons to get this test

  • Uncover heart risk beyond cholesterol ApoB counts the actual particles carrying cholesterol, often a more accurate read on heart risk than LDL alone.
  • Check for inherited heart risk once Lipoprotein(a) is largely genetic, a single test reveals lifelong cardiovascular risk most people never measure.
  • Catch insulin resistance early Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR reveal metabolic dysfunction years before blood sugar shifts.
  • See low-grade heart inflammation High-sensitivity CRP measures the chronic inflammation tied to long-term cardiovascular risk.
  • Find what homocysteine reveals A blood marker linked to heart and brain risk, easily lowered with the right inputs when caught early.
  • Check organ context for the full picture Kidney, liver and thyroid markers read alongside heart markers, because the systems work together.
