A very positive experience

Could not have been better

Genetic Methylation Test

Methylation is a fundamental biochemical process involved in DNA regulation, detoxification, neurotransmitter balance, hormone metabolism and energy production.

The Methylation Profile is a specialised blood test that assesses the methionine and folate pathways responsible for generating methyl groups in the body.

At the centre of this process is S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAMe), the body’s primary methyl donor. As SAMe releases methyl groups, it converts to S-Adenosyl Homocysteine (SAH). The balance between these two markers reflects overall methylation efficiency.

This test measures:

  • SAM/SAH Ratio (Methylation Index)

  • Tetrahydrofolate (THF)

  • Folinic Acid (5-formyl THF)

  • 5-Methyl Tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)

S-Adenosyl Homocysteine (SAH)
Formed after SAMe donates a methyl group. Elevated SAH can inhibit methylation processes.

SAM/SAH Ratio (Methylation Index)
Reflects overall methylation efficiency. A lower ratio suggests reduced methylation activity.

Tetrahydrofolate (THF)
The basic reduced form of folate from which other active folate forms are derived.

Acid (5-formyl THF)
An active reduced folate form that can be converted into other active folates and supports methylation pathways.|

5-Methyl Tetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF)
The primary circulating folate form used to donate methyl groups to homocysteine. Its production is influenced by MTHFR enzyme activity.
